AC MILAN THE ROSSONERI
The club that chose a devil as its symbol to strike fear into the hearts of opponents, has indeed succeeded in doing so for over a century.
History:
AC Milan, founded in 1899, is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy. Milan have won 18 officially recognized international titles, tied with Boca Juniors as having the most in the world. The club has won UEFA Champions League on seven occasions; only Real Madrid has won it more times (9). As far as Italian competitions are concerned, Milan is the second most successful club with 17 league titles; only Juventus has won more (27). AC Milan has won four world titles, more than any other club in the world. They have won the Intercontinental Cup 3 times, and the FIFA Club World Cup once. Other important titles won by Milan include the European Super Cup a record five times, and the Cup Winners' Cup twice; however, they have never reached the UEFA Cup final (only two semi-finals). This is the only official trophy in existence that AC Milan has never won. In Italy, they have won the Copa Italia five times, as well as five Italian Super Cups. AC Milan is also one of the G-14’s founding members, a group that used to represent eighteen of the largest and most prestigious European football clubs before its disbandment.
The team's current stadium is the 80,018 seat San Siro, and is also ranked as the 6th richest football club in the world by Forbes magazine, making them the richest in Italian football.
Sightseeing:
Milan is the capital of the Lombard region and the most important city in Northern Italy. Known as Italy’s centre of fashion and business with a gothic heart, it is also one of its liveliest cultural cities. There is plenty to see and do: The most famous of its many sights is Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, and the world’s most prestigious opera house - La Scala. A vibrant, modern city it may well be, but it also encapsulates European history and tradition, and there are numerous remarkable art treasures, some dating back to antiquity, all around Milan. Like in the rest of Italy, the food is exquisite. Local delicacies include risotto and minestrone soup. It hosts the country’s largest fish market, and sunblushed tomates, fresh basil and olive oil is used in abundance in the cuisine. If you fancy a bit of shopping - from local street markets to high fashion, from flea markets to highly specialized shops, Milan has it all. Milan is a fast-food city, but fast food in Italy isn’t burger and fries. The bars, delis and cafeterias cater to people with plenty of taste and more money than time, so there are delightful eateries all over town. Make sure you eat a proper Italian pizza while in the country - it has to be made in a wood-fired oven and have a thin, crispy crust. Fancy something sweet? Italian icecream is recognized as the best in the world, so find your own favourite gelato (ice-cream) at one of the many gelaterieas.
